Meeting Information

We meet every Tuesday at 6:30 – 7:30 at Faith Lutheran Church. We follow the Owasso Public School Calendar that means when there is no school, we do not have a meeting at the church. Meetings are generally held August through May with several Meet-Ups in the summer months.  We ask that you arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes early, so that we can start the meetings on time. This gives you and your scout the opportunity to take care of any scout business and socialize before the meeting starts. Any changes to this schedule because of school holidays, events or other pack outings will be announced at the meetings, emailed through ScoutBook, communicated within Dens and posted on our Facebook page. Meeting reminders can be found on the Pack 840 Facebook page, so it is always good to double check!

Den Meeting – While the meetings include games and other activities that are fun for the Scouts, program delivery is the main goal. These are weekly meetings where Cub Scouts can make new friends, play purposeful games, and learn new things. Scouts participate in activities and work on projects that are related to an adventure and that help them learn the skills they need to progress in rank. Parent participation is always welcome in our Pack, please talk with your scout’s den leader about how you can help.

Lion and Tigers – Cub Scouts who join in kindergarten (Lion) or first grade (Tiger) join with an adult partner. A BSA adult application is not needed to be an adult partner if you are the parent or guardian. Each adult partner takes a turn assisting or hosting meetings or activities with the den leader. This shared leadership model is a great way to ensure the den leader has the help needed to deliver a quality program. Any adult that regularly accompanies a scout to Den meetings, that is not that scout’s parent or guardian, will need to fill out an BSA adult application.

Pack Meeting – The Cub Scout Pack is made up of all the Dens, which meet monthly at a Pack meeting, usually led by the Cubmaster. There are games, skits, songs, ceremonies, activities and presentations of achievements and badges that Cub Scouts have earned during that month.  It is an important part of the program, as it allows the scouts to receive their recognition in front of the group as a whole (Scouts, Leaders, Friends and Families), inspires the younger scouts to strive towards achieving future ranks, and brings everybody together for the big night.

Seats at the Pack meeting will be arranged den-by-den, with the scouts and leaders to sit in front of the parents. All participants will be asked to find their seats five minutes prior to the start of the meeting. Please be respectful and silence your phones during this time.

The Pack meeting agenda will vary from meeting to meeting, depending upon the specific program for that month. Every effort will be made to end the meeting by 7:30 pm.

In general, meetings will follow this pattern:

•          Opening (flag ceremony)

•          Announcements

•          Skit/Song

•          Awards

•          Activity

•          Closing

•          Game

At most Pack meetings each den will have an assignment or responsibility.  Your den leader will let you know in advance.  Some could include:

Set-up/tear down. Arrive early to set up/tear down chairs

Color Guard. Conduct the opening flag ceremony promptly at the start of the meeting

Song. Lead the Pack in a brief song.

Skit. Do a 2 to 3-minute skit during the Pack meeting

Clean-up. Put all chairs and tables used during the meeting back to the original places.  Pick up all debris on the floor.

What do you as a parent or guardian need to do?

Arrive at the meetings on time.  If your scout is helping out with Pack meeting activities, it is important that your scout be there on time.

Help your scout to wear their complete “Class A” uniform.  Unless otherwise specified.

Attend the Pack meeting with your child.  Cub Scouts is a family program.  Pack meetings are a family event; brothers, sisters, grandparents, but most of all YOU.  Parents are sometimes asked to participate in the award presentation (especially during rank and bobcat awards).
